16 May 2026
Dear devotees & friends,
Sunday, 31st May 2026 marks the 2570th Vesak Day. It commemorates the Birth, the Enlightenment and the Final Nirvana of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. It is thus the most holy event for the Buddhist community.
The Great and Vast Avatamsaka Repentance Ceremony
大方廣佛華嚴寶懺法會
We are pleased to announce that we will be organising The Great and Vast Avatamsaka Repentance Ceremony from 30 May to 1 June 2026 to commemorate this year’s Vesak Day.
The ceremony’s ritual is based on the Avatamsaka Sutra, which teaches that all sentient beings possess inherent Buddha-nature and that reality is created by the mind. The repentance ceremony provides a platform for us to sincerely confess and repent for unwholesome deeds (evil karma) accumulated through body, speech, and mind over countless past lives. It aims to cleanse the mind of greed, anger, and delusion, transforming them into wisdom and compassion.
May we use the opportunity to reiterate our determination to lead noble lives, to develop our minds, to practise loving kindness and to bring peace and harmony to all humanity!
In addition, during Vesak Day celebration, while we rejoice, we hope that all Buddhists will take time to reflect and embrace the Buddha’s Teachings on loving kindness and compassion and hence, remember those who are less fortunate than us. We therefore earnestly hope that you will, on this most holy event, renew your commitment to reach out to those who are in need by continuing to support us wholeheartedly. At VCS, we are committed to help all in need regardless of race or religion. With your generous donation being $10 or $100 or other amount, your donation will go a long way to help us continue our charitable work. For every $ you donate, the Government together with Tote Board will match 50%. For this reason, we try to stretch our donation drive and hope to receive your warm support.
